The boutique hotel Collection welcomes its new Sicily hotel
Epoque Hotels is happy to announce its new boutique hotel Member, Casa Favonio. Hotel Casa Favonio, is located in the heart of a nature reserve, at Monte Santa Caterina’s feet, and is hidden in a glorious 5 hectares property planted with old olive trees in Favignana, in the Egadi islands. The nearest beach is at less than 1 kilometer. Close enough to town to pop in for a meal; far enough away that you get a real feel of seclusion. Design-wise it’s a blend of natural shades of stone and sand offset by lashings of cool white – discreet but chic.
Explore beaches, grottos and volcanic caves; zip around the islands in our speedboat; sit under shady palms and pines to read. This is somewhere you will escape the outside world. Three standard doubles, three deluxe double and a superior double make up the accommodation at Hotel Casa Favonio.
The 3 Standard Rooms are set on the ground floor, with views over the garden. Each has a private courtyard area (with deckchairs, bath towels, bath robes, air conditioning, security box and satellite TV). The Deluxe and Superior Rooms are up on the first floor, with big private terraces looking out across the island; both are perfectly placed to watch the sunset. Inside, they are bigger than the standard rooms, with the added charm of 4-poster beds. The Superior Room has 2 terraces, one with an outdoor plunge pool.
The island of Favignana, Sicily is the largest of the Egadi Islands, which lie just off the northwest of Sicily. It is a 20-minute hop on the hydrofoil (there are regular services year round) or 45 minutes on the car ferry from Trapani. – View Location Map. It has 33km of gorgeous coastline in the Mediterranean. You can hire a scooter and go around the island, discovering quiet coves lapped by the crystalline sea waters. The Cala Rossa beach is reputed the most beautiful, with its lean, warm waters and flat rocks ideal for sunbathing; Cala Rotonda is a natural harbor and from there you can swim out to the grottos, while the popular Lido Burrone has is broad stretch of sand dotted by charming restaurants. In Favignana you can go to see the famous grottos opening on the sea: Grotta Azzurra (The Blue Grotto, so-called because of the azure color of the water), Grotta dei Sospiri (The Grotto of Sighs, where the wind makes noises reminding those of sighs), and Grotta degli Innamorati (The Lovers’ Grotto, named after two matching rocks standing side by side). Diving enthusiasts will think to be in heaven, with crystal-clear waters and craters left by former volcanic activity. Favignana was once famous for its blue-fin tuna fishing. Every May their traditional harvest – known as mattanza – is performed again so that tourists can witness the old fishing ways.
