Today, we continue our series about Istanbul. Istanbul is one of the truly great romantic cities. Its history tracks back from Byzantium to Constantinople to its place at the head of the Ottoman Empire. Today it hums as Turkey’s cultural heart and good-time capital. In this sprawling, continent-spanning city you can tramp the streets where crusaders and janissaries once marched; admire mosques that are the most sublime architectural expressions of Islamic piety; peer into the sultan’s harem; and hunt for bargains in the Kapali Carsi (Grand Bazaar).
Enjoy the marvelous “Kremlin Palace Treasure in the Topkapi Palace” in Istanbul. This has been the center for four centuries during the Ottoman Empire as it was the location for the state administration. It is open every day from 09:00 a.m. to 05:00 p.m. except on Tuesdays.
Aya Sofya (Haghia Sophia) Museum
The Aya Sofya built in 532-537 AD and has been one of the biggest churches in the world for over 1000 years, blends Christianity and Islam during the Byzantine Empire. With a dome at 56m high, today the museum showcases beautiful mosaics and art from two exotic cultures. It is open every day from 09:30 to 16:30 except Mondays.
Sultanahmet (The Blue Mosque)
The most important mosque in the city in Sultanahment square, with a unique distinction of having 6 slim minarets, the Sultanahment also known as the Blue Mosque, is famously known for the blue tile work in its walls. Furthermore, the 17th century mosque is located near the Haghia Sophia museum.
Grand Bazaar and Spice Bazaar
With an astonishing 250,000 to 400,000 visitors daily, the ancient Grand Bazaar has been the center of business for more than 6 centuries. It is one of the oldest and largest covered markets in the world that contain around 1,200 shops that many are renowned for their jewelry, spices, pottery and carpets. It is the center of spice trade in Istanbul and itself is located within the Külliye of the Yeni Mosque designed during the 17th century by Koca Kasim Aga and completed in 1660. Everyday gives a chance to purchase some of the finest goods from 09:00 to 19:00 except Sundays and holidays.
