What To Do in Puerto Plata

Amber Museum

There is no other museum in the world that only focuses on amber than the Amber Museum in Puerto Plata. Situated downtown, a visit to the museum is said to be fast and easy, as you will not need more than 20 minutes to view the museum. Puerto Plata is also known as the Amber Coast or the Amber Riviera. Here you can find amber stones with bugs and leaves inside, which leaves you a real Jurassic Park movie experience.


Fortaleza de San Felipe

It is located at the end of the Puerto Plata Malecon. This is how the locals call the avenue that is along the seaside. Fortaleza de San Felipe is an old Fort that was built by the Spanish 500 years ago. The Malecon has recently been re-done and it is really nice to take a walk here during the evening, and have a drink at a bar or terrace.


Victorian Houses

It is a very interesting type of architecture you may find in the Caribbean. Puerto Plata has one of the largest collections of Victorian houses in the Caribbean. You can find these houses everywhere in the city. The Victorian houses are protected by law, which means in case of re-constructing; the original design must be respected. A must see are the Victorian architecture and the cathedral surrounding the central park in downtown Puerto Plata.


Ocean World Adventure Park & Marina

The Ocean World is the number one attraction in Puerto Plata and the Dominican Republic. You may visit the park during the daytime where they offer different programs: swimming with the dolphins, a dolphin shows, a sea lion shows, a tropical garden, and watch different birds and much more! During the evening, attached to the park, you will find a theater where they feature BRAVISSIMO a Vegas style show unique in the Dominican Republic. End your evening gambling in the casino and dancing in the disco.


Isabel de Torrres National Park and cable car

This is a mountain which is part of the many National parks in the Dominican Republic. There is a cable car which takes you to the highest spot of the mountain where they have a botanical garden and big statue of the Christ Redeemer. The view of the city, Playa Dorada, Sosu is absolutely fantastic up on the mountain! It’s the only mountain in the Caribbean with a cable car ride, and is located in Puerto Plata.
